Lectureship in Modern Greek History, Royal Holloway, University of London
With the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation a new lectureship in Modern Greek History was inaugurated at Royal Holloway, University of London in September 2014, with the appointment of Dr George Vassiadis. This initiative builds on the legacies of both the Hellenic Institute and the History Department at Royal Holloway, with their traditional strengths in Ancient Greek and Byzantine History. The new lectureship is currently the only full-time university level teaching post in Modern Greek History in the United Kingdom, offering undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to explore the political, social and cultural history of Greece, Cyprus and the Greek Diaspora from the post-Byzantine period through to the present day. The Centre for Greek Diaspora Studies, established within the Hellenic Institute in 2015, will encourage research into the history of the flourishing Greek and Cypriot communities around the world, with particular emphasis on those in the United Kingdom.
