Gennadius Library Medieval Greek Summer Session, American School of Classical Studies at Athens

The Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens is an internationally renowned research library with a rich collection of rare books, manuscripts and archives that illuminate Hellenic culture through the ages. Since July 2005 the Library has run bi-annually an intense, month-long Medieval Greek Summer Session aiming to teach Byzantine Greek language and philology at the intermediate level. Graduate students are exposed to Byzantine primary texts, diverse literary genres, palaeography and epigraphy, while tutorials with the two instructors ensure the progress of all participants according to their individual needs. Visits to museums in Athens and to Byzantine monuments throughout Greece add considerably to student life. Grants given by the A. G. Leventis Foundation have funded full scholarships that have brought to Athens diverse and vibrant student groups.
