The Harvard School of Public Health, Boston

Founded in 1913, the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) was the first professional training programme of public health in America. The A. G. Leventis Foundation has supported the HSPH since 2008, supplying scholarships that have helped attract talented students to the programme, supporting five promising young research scientists and enabling more than 25 young Cypriot, Greek and Nigerian students to earn M.Sc. degrees in either environmental health or epidemiology and biostatistics at Harvard’s  Cyprus International Institute. In Cyprus, the support of the Foundation has offered partial tuition to seven young Cypriots pursuing their M.Sc. degrees in epidemiology and biostatistics, besides offering vital support to the Institute and allowing it to continue its educational programmes at a time of economic crisis for Cyprus. With the Foundation’s support during these past five years, the HSPH has educated over 30 regional leaders in public health, who will advance research and help improve the health of populations of their home countries of Cyprus, Greece and Nigeria.
