Humanitarian Aid, through the Church of Cyprus
In the aftermath of the 2012 recent financial crisis in European Union countries has created an unparalleled demand for humanitarian aid in Cyprus towards vulnerable social groups, both Cypriot nationals and immigrants, with the growing numbers of those in need linked to the uprooting of populations and rising unemployment. Municipalities and communities, the Church of Cyprus, organisations, associations, other bodies and individuals have joined together in order to address what is an emergency situation. While the A. G. Leventis Foundation continues to aid the Cyprus Red Cross Society, it has also targeted aid through many of the Cyprus bishoprics, supporting their social and charitable work, providing aid on a regular basis to both deprived solitary individuals and single-parent families, offering food supplies to families in need, providing breakfast to schoolchildren and packages of food on feast days. The Foundation, in its commitment to education, is also supporting young people to conclude their studies in higher education in cases where the future of their studies is jeopardized by financial constraints.
