The Hellenic Centre
The Hellenic Centre was founded in 1994 as a base for Hellenic culture and community in London. Its mission is to bring together Hellenes of the Diaspora, and to promote an awareness and appreciation of Hellenic culture for Greeks and non-Greeks. The Foundation was one of the Centre’s founding sponsors and its continuing support has helped to develop a rich programme of cultural and educational events - among them the icon exhibition ‘Cyprus the Holy Island: Icons through the Centuries’; the photography exhibition ‘Cyprus remembered’ by Reno Wideson; a book presentation on Greek painters of Istanbul; and Greek music workshops for children. In March 2011 the Hellenic Centre was given an award by the Athens Academy for its contribution to Hellenism abroad - an accolade partly attributable to the support of the Foundation. The Foundation’s yearly support continues, including recent special grants towards the celebrations to mark the Centre’s 25th Anniversary in 2019 and the 60th Anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus.
