Centre for Asia Minor Studies
The Centre for Asia Minor Studies was created in the aftermath of the disastrous Greco-Turkish war and subsequent population exchange in 1922, when Greece recognized the need to preserve its dissipated Asia-Minor cultural heritage through the memories of Greek Orthodox refugees. The Centre’s primary function today is as a historical and political research centre and “think-tank” of international standing. The Foundation’s grant has contributed to the digitization and documentation of over 150,000 hand-written pages of the Centre’s Oral Tradition Archive (based on the oral accounts of 5,000 refugees from Cappadocia, Pontus and Ionia). This enables these invaluable accounts to be accessible to scientific researchers around the world, and facilitates their use for educational purposes.
