A. G. Leventis Postdoctoral Fellowships, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London

Since 1993, the A. G. Leventis Foundation has supported the Centre of African Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, in offering two postdoctoral fellowships to Nigerian academics (based in Nigerian research institutions) to spend 10 weeks at SOAS in order to pursue their research in libraries and archives and to participate in the intellectual life of the Centre. A remarkable institution, uniquely combining language scholarship, disciplinary expertise and regional focus, SOAS has the largest concentration in Europe of academic staff concerned with Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The SOAS Library, the UK national library for the study of Africa, Asia and the Middle East, has more than 1.5 million items and extensive electronic resources and attracts scholars from all around the world. The A. G. Leventis Research Cooperation Programme is devised to assist younger Nigerian scholars develop their research interests in collaboration with their counterparts in London.
