Humanitarian Actions, PRAKSIS, Greece

An NGO that concentrates on humanitarian and medical needs across Greece, PRAKSIS focuses its work particularly in the larger urban centres. In 2013, the A. G. Leventis Foundation supported two important projects operated by PRAKSIS, in Athens and Patras respectively. A grant towards the ‘Syn sto Plin’ programme funded initiatives that aim to counteract the effects of the financial crisis in Greece. With the Foundation’s assistance, PRAKSIS was able to purchase winter urban survival kits for the ‘new homeless’ in Athens, to help them confront their first winter in the streets: 225 survival kits were distributed, each consisting of 17 items, including backpack, mattress, sleeping bag and isothermal clothing. A second grant by the Foundation was directed towards the programme titled ‘Protecting Children on the Move’, which has been implemented in Patras and focuses on aiding children in need of international protection, including asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and trafficked persons. PRAKSIS operates a drop-in centre, offers psycho-social support, legal assistance, medical and pharmaceutical services and a wide range of street-work actions.
