Public Programme, Tiwani Contemporary Gallery, London
Situated in London, the Tiwani Contemporary Gallery operates an extensive public programme, which consists of artists’ talks, panel discussions, screenings and publications and plays a vital role in providing context to artworks and promoting a critical understanding of the work of artists from Africa and the African diaspora. In 2014, Tiwani Contemporary has been able to offer talks by Andrew Esiebo, Ephrem Solomon, Shoshanna Weinberger and ruby onyinyechi amanze. The opportunity for these international artists to engage in person with a diverse London audience for the first time was made possible with the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation. The Foundation’s help has also enabled the Tiwani Gallery to put two new publications into production in 2014, enabling the documentation of artists’ practices, which is central to the Gallery’s public programme. This is an incredibly important step towards addressing the gap in the literature on art from Africa and the African diaspora, particularly as the A. G. Leventis Foundation grants have allowed the Gallery to donate its publications to international libraries and academic institutions, ensuring long-term global visibility for artists.
