Paxos Music Festival, Paxos Island

The Paxos Music Festival was founded by John Gough in 2004. Furthering its aim of training outstanding musicians in a broad range of 20th- and 21st-century music, the Festival, with the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, offers them the opportunity to perform concerts not only on Paxos in the summer, but also during the winter season in Greece, at the Megaron, the Onassis Cultural Centre, the B. & M. Theocharakis Foundation and the Athens Conservatory, as well as abroad. After ten years on Paxos, the Paxos Ensemble joined forces with the Ionian Academy of Corfu in the last two weeks of June, a collaboration which culminated in a concert at the Ionian Academy on 29 June 2014. The Ensemble performed with the mezzo-soprano Angelica Cathariou in the frame of the 40th International Computer Music Association Conference, which took place for the first time in Greece in September 2014, held jointly with the 11th European Sound and Music Computing Conference, and in January 2015 they will give the first performance in Greece of Le marteau sans maître of Pierre Boulez in partnership with the Institute Français de Grèce à Athènes and the Athens Conservatory.
