European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2024 for Boulouki - Travelling Workshop on Traditional Building (Greece)
"Boulouki" - Itinerant Workshop for Traditional Building Techniques received international recognition for its exemplary work at the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2024, Europe's most prestigious awards for cultural heritage. Boulouki is a versatile collective of architects, engineers and heritage professionals dedicated to revitalising traditional craftsmanship for contemporary construction needs, with projects ranging from the participatory restoration of cobblestone pathways and underground rainwater cisterns in Santorini to training local communities in heritage building skills in the mountainous area of Epirus. A current project running with the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, employs traditional dry-wall constructions to ensure water conservation and biodiversity enhancement, benefiting endangered carnivores along the ecological corridors of Northern Pindus. Now recognized by Europa Nostra among 26 outstanding initiatives from 18 countries across Europe, Boulouki will continue to focus on teaching traditional skills and promoting participatory and collective care of heritage, as avenues social empowerment and creativity.
