Educational programmes, Museum of Greek Children’s Art, Athens
With the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, 1,281 pre-school children and primary school pupils participated in the educational programme The right to be a child organized by the Museum of Greek Children’s Art. The aim of the programme, organized in the context of the Museum’s homonymous exhibition, was to allow children between 5 and 7 years of age to familiarize themselves with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, turning the learning process into a creative ‘personal’ experience. The programme was designed and realized by the Museum’s educational staff, employing audiovisual media, educational leaflets, activities and games, aiming to familiarize children with the 4 pillars of their rights: Survival, Development, Protection and Participation. Inspiration is drawn from the 84 paintings and three-dimensional artworks created by children, selected from the Museum’s collection of 7,000 artworks that date from 1992 to 2014, also including works from a collaboration with UNICEF and with the International Museum of Children’s Art in Norway, and children’s artworks from the period 1945-1948. At the end of each visit, teachers received an educational folio with artistic activities and proposals for the further working on the subject in the classroom.
