The Collection of Works by Greek Artists of the 19th and 20th Centuries
The early core of the Foundation’s “Greek Collection” was formed of the artworks acquired by Anastasios G. Leventis in 1973 from Evangelos Averoff-Tossizza. During the 1990s and 2000s, this collection was extensively studied and added to and today it comprises of 264 works by 106 artists- oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints. It spans more than 100 years of artistic production, from the mid-19th century to around 1970, representing the diverse periods, trends and aesthetic approaches that shaped the history of Modern Greek painting.
