Hellenic Observatory, Biennial PhD Symposiums on Contemporary Greece and Cyprus, London School of Economics

In 2016, the LSE’s Hellenic Observatory (HO) proudly celebrates its 20 year anniversary. During this time, it has established itself as the premier institution internationally for research and discussion on contemporary Greece and Cyprus, and its research output, events programme and the depth and extent of its partnerships within Greece are unrivalled. The HO’s mission is to promote the multidisciplinary study of contemporary Greek and Cypriot politics, economy and society, and to relate these to both the rest of the European Union and to Southeast Europe, a focus expressed across its research and wide range of public activities, which include developing and supporting academic and policy-related research; organizing of conferences, seminars and workshops; academic exchange through visiting fellowships and internships; and teaching at the graduate level through LSE’s European Institute. The A. G. Leventis Foundation supported the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th HO’s biennial PhD Symposiums. These events offer a unique opportunity for postgraduate students in the social sciences working on Greece and/or Cyprus, which facilitates the exchange of knowledge and ideas between young researchers and provides them with the experience of presenting their research to an international audience.
