Model reforestation within the Sounio National Park

The A. G. Leventis Foundation supports the model reforestation within the Sounio National Park. The programme is implemented by WWF Greece in collaboration with the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems, the General Directorate of Forestry Works and Infrastructure and the Forestry Department of Lavrio, with the aim of restoring biodiversity rich forest ecosystem. With the participation of dozens of trained volunteers, 15,000 plants have been planted already in an area that no longer has the potential for natural regeneration, reintroducing broad-leaved species that help make the forest more resilient to the challenges of the climate crisis.
